Spicy Sirloin Steak Rice Bowl

A Simple yet Nutritious and Delicious Spicy Steak Rice Bowl Recipe for a Satisfying Meal

Spicy Sirloin Steak Rice Bowl

After returning from a trip to Jeju Island, I realized I didn’t have many ingredients to cook with. So, I decided to make a steak rice bowl using sirloin from a premium Korean beef set I gratefully received from a friend last week. I’m not usually a big fan of steak because it can be greasy and tough, but my sons love it. This recipe is designed to eliminate that greasiness and toughness, and when I tried it, I found it so delicious I couldn’t get enough! If you don’t have fresh vegetables on hand, you’d need to go grocery shopping, but it’s great that meat dishes like this can be made with ingredients readily available in the freezer if you set your mind to it. Especially this time, since my friend gifted me such high-quality Korean beef, it made the meal truly exceptional. Enjoy this luxurious, hearty, and spicy steak rice bowl, easily prepared in one bowl! Stay healthy today! ♡

Main Ingredients

  • 300g Korean Sirloin Steak
  • 2 Tbsp Mirin (Rice Wine)
  • A pinch of Herb Salt
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 5 cloves Garlic
  • 2 Cheongyang Peppers (Korean Red Chili Peppers)
  • 2 bowls of Warm Cooked Rice

Special Steak Sauce

  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Butter
  • 3 Tbsp Store-bought Steak Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Store-bought Teriyaki Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • A dash of Black Pepper
  • A sprinkle of Parsley Flakes (Optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Pat the fresh sirloin steak dry with paper towels. Season generously with 2 tablespoons of mirin and herb salt, then let it marinate for about 15 minutes. This helps remove any gamey odor and tenderizes the meat.

Step 2

Slice the onion into relatively thick strips, about 0.7cm wide. Mince the garlic thinly. Chop the Cheongyang peppers finely, rinse them under running water, and remove the seeds to control the spiciness.

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium-high heat with a little cooking oil. Place the marinated sirloin steak and sear each side for 1-2 minutes to lock in the juices. Reduce the heat and continue cooking until the steak reaches your desired level of doneness. (Medium-rare is recommended).

Step 4

Wipe clean the pan used for the steak, or heat 1 teaspoon of butter in a clean wok over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and garlic and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant.

Step 5

Add 1 cup of water, 3 tablespoons of store-bought steak sauce, 3 tablespoons of store-bought teriyaki sauce, 2 tablespoons of honey, and a dash of black pepper to the sautéed onions and garlic. Stir well and bring the sauce to a simmer. Let it cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Step 6

Once the steak is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5cm thick. You can add any juices released from the steak into the sauce for extra flavor.

Step 7

Place the warm cooked rice in a bowl. Arrange the sliced steak attractively over the rice. Generously spoon the prepared special sauce over the steak. You can add sautéed vegetables or other garnishes if desired.

Step 8

Sprinkle with parsley flakes for a final touch, and your delicious spicy sirloin steak rice bowl is ready! It’s best enjoyed immediately while hot. Enjoy your meal!
