Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gather your ingredients for the ‘Spicy Buldak Spam Musubi’. This recipe serves 2 and requires 1 pack of Buldak Bokkeummyun, 1 serving of cooked rice, kimbap seaweed sheets, 240g of Spam, 6 eggs, 2 pinches of salt, and 2 tablespoons of milk. You’ll also need a 340g Spam can and plastic wrap – the can is very helpful for shaping the musubi!
Step 2
In a bowl, crack the 6 eggs. Add the 2 pinches of salt and 2 tablespoons of milk. Adding milk will make the omelet extra tender and fluffy. Whisk everything together thoroughly to create your egg mixture.
Step 3
Lightly dampen a paper towel with cooking oil and use it to coat the inside of your frying pan, like you’re polishing it. Place the pan over low heat to warm it up gently. This prevents the egg from sticking or burning.
Step 4
Pour the egg mixture into the warmed pan over low heat. As the edges of the egg begin to set, carefully start rolling it up using chopsticks or a spatula. Rolling it thinly in layers will create a thicker, more substantial omelet.
Step 5
Once the omelet is cooked and rolled, let it cool slightly. Then, cut it into 6 equal pieces, matching the size of your prepared Spam can. This ensures each musubi will have a perfect layer of egg.
Step 6
Now it’s time to cook the Spam. Slice the 240g Spam into 6 equal pieces, about 1cm thick. Place the Spam slices in a preheated frying pan and cook until they are golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. Grilling the Spam enhances its savory flavor.
Step 7
Cook 1 pack of Buldak Bokkeummyun according to the package instructions. Drain and mix the sauce well. Once cooked, use scissors to cut the noodles into shorter, bite-sized pieces. This makes them easier to mix with the rice.
Step 8
Combine the warm cooked rice with the prepared Buldak Bokkeummyun in a bowl. Gently mix with chopsticks or a spatula, ensuring the spicy sauce coats every grain of rice. You’ll smell the delicious spicy aroma!
Step 9
Line the 340g Spam can with plastic wrap, leaving some excess wrap hanging over the edges. This will help you easily remove the musubi later. Start by pressing the Buldak Bokkeummyun rice mixture firmly into the bottom of the can. Then, layer with the sliced omelet, followed by the pan-fried Spam. Finish with another layer of rice, pressing down firmly to shape the musubi.
Step 10
Carefully pull on the overhanging plastic wrap to lift the shaped musubi out of the can. The wrap will help maintain its form. Gently shape it further if needed.
Step 11
Cut the kimbap seaweed sheets to fit the size of your Spam can. Place the formed musubi onto a sheet of seaweed and wrap it securely. Press gently to help the seaweed adhere.
Step 12
Finally, slice the wrapped musubi into bite-sized pieces, just like you would cut kimbap. Your delicious and fiery Buldak Spam Musubi is now ready! Each bite offers a delightful combination of Buldak’s heat, Spam’s umami, and the satisfying heartiness of rice. It’s the perfect snack or meal!
