- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start making this delicious spicy and savory soy sauce braised fish cake, which is perfect even when served cold and makes a fantastic lunchbox side dish.
Step 2
First, heat a pan over medium-low heat and add a little oil. Add the chopped green onions and stir-fry them to release their fragrant oil. Once the aroma is strong, add the fish cakes cut into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3cm wide) and the thinly sliced onion. Stir-fry them together. It’s important to stir-fry the fish cakes until they become soft and tender.
Step 3
When the fish cakes start to soften, add all the prepared seasoning ingredients. This includes 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp red pepper flakes, 1 tsp oligosaccharide, and 1/3 cup of water. Stir and mix well with a spatula to ensure the seasoning coats the fish cakes and vegetables evenly. For a spicier kick, you can add 1 finely chopped Cheongyang chili pepper (seeds removed) at this stage.
Step 4
Continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until all ingredients and seasonings are well combined. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious soy sauce braised fish cake is ready! The flavor deepens as it cools, so it’s recommended to let it rest a bit before serving.
