Main Ingredients- Pulmuone Mapo Tofu Sauce 130g
- Firm Tofu 2/3 block (approx. 200g)
- Green Onion 1/3 stalk (mostly white part)
- Onion 1/6
- Cooking Oil, as needed
- Water 100ml (1/2 cup)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ‘Pulmuone Mapo Tofu Sauce’ that will bring this dish to life. Using a store-bought sauce eliminates the need for complicated seasoning preparation, making it incredibly convenient.
Step 2
Prepare 2/3 of a block of firm tofu (approximately 200g). Dice the tofu into cubes about 1.5cm in size. Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart during cooking, so aim for a moderate size.
Step 3
Thinly slice the white part of 1/3 of a green onion. Slice 1/6 of an onion into similar thickness strips. These sliced vegetables will add a fragrant aroma when stir-fried.
Step 4
Heat a pan with a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the sliced green onions and onions and stir-fry over medium-low heat to release their fragrance. It’s important to stir-fry them until their essential oils are well extracted.
Step 5
Once the vegetables are fragrantly stir-fried, add 130g of Pulmuone Mapo Tofu Sauce and 100ml (1/2 cup) of water. Mix well. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and let it simmer until the sauce is well dissolved.

When the sauce starts to bubble, carefully add the diced tofu. Gently stir to coat the tofu without breaking it, and let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes to allow the tofu to absorb the sauce flavor. At this stage, adding 2 Tbsp of chili oil (optional ingredient) can provide a deeper, spicier flavor.

Finally, if you’d like more heat, stir in 1/2 Tbsp of chili powder and mix lightly. Adding chili powder significantly enhances the savory taste. Simmer for a little longer to allow all the ingredients to meld together, and your delicious Mapo Tofu is ready.
