An Irresistible Homemade Mala Hot Pot Stir-Fry Recipe
For all you mala lovers out there! While mala soup is fantastic, a stir-fry with crisp vegetables and chewy mushrooms is truly a culinary masterpiece. Today, let’s make a simple yet incredibly delicious Mala Mushroom Stir-Fry where you can easily add your favorite ingredients. This dish offers a delightful blend of stimulating spiciness and diverse textures.
Main Ingredients- Mala Stir-Fry Sauce: 3 Tbsp (adjust to taste)
- Oyster Mushrooms: 200g
- Bell Pepper: 1/2
- Napa Cabbage: 5 leaves
- Cooking Oil: 2 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently tear the oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. You can use other mushrooms like shiitake or king oyster mushrooms if you prefer. Using a variety of mushrooms will add more interesting textures to your stir-fry.
Step 2
Cut the bell pepper in half, remove the seeds, and slice it into approximately 1cm wide pieces for easy eating. Using colorful red and yellow bell peppers will make your stir-fry visually appealing.
Step 3
Wash the fresh napa cabbage leaves thoroughly and cut them into about 3-4cm lengths. The crispness of the cabbage will complement the flavorful mala sauce.
Step 4
Heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the prepared oyster mushrooms, sliced bell peppers, and napa cabbage, and stir-fry quickly. Stir-frying rapidly over high heat helps maintain the vegetables’ crispiness. Feel free to add other vegetables or protein like thinly sliced meat if you want a heartier meal.
Step 5
Once the ingredients are partially cooked, add the desired amount of mala stir-fry sauce and continue to stir-fry briskly. Even with just fresh vegetables and mushrooms, this dish becomes a delicious mala stir-fry, reminiscent of ingredients for shabu-shabu. It’s a simple yet satisfying meal.
Step 6
If you prefer a rich and intense mala flavor, we recommend using a sauce like Haidilao Mala Xiang Guo Sauce, known for its robust taste. It pairs wonderfully with the ingredients, delivering a deep and complex flavor profile.
Step 7
For a lighter and cleaner mala sauce, consider options like Ottogi Lajiaojang Mala Sauce, which offers a clearer finish. This type of sauce enhances the freshness of the ingredients while providing a pleasant level of spice.
Step 8
Start with 3 Tbsp of the mala stir-fry sauce. Taste as you cook and add more to achieve your desired level of spice and numbing sensation. If you crave a stronger mala kick, adding a bit more sauce will elevate the flavor even further.
