Spicy Jjajangmyeon with Beef Brisket
Quick and Spicy Jjajangmyeon for a Cozy Day In
As the current global situation continues to be serious, staying home and cooking simple meals seems like the best approach. Today, I’ve made a spicy version of Jjajangmyeon, perfect as a substitute for the traditional dish. It’s a quick, flavorful, and satisfying meal that brings a delightful kick!
Ingredients- 1 pack Jjajangmyeon noodles
- 6 slices beef brisket (or thinly sliced beef belly)
- 1/4 onion
- 1/3 stalk green onion
- 2 Korean green chili peppers (Cheongyang peppers)
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1/2 cup water (approx. 100ml)
Seasoning- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Slice the green onion diagonally, focusing on the white parts. Remove the stems from the Korean green chili peppers and finely chop them for a spicy kick.
Step 2
In a pot, add 1/2 cup (approx. 100ml) of water and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add the Jjajangmyeon noodles and the dried vegetable packet. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and cook until the noodles are about 70% done. Be careful not to overcook them, as they will continue to cook when stir-fried.
Step 3
When the noodles are about 70% cooked, add the beef brisket (or thinly sliced beef belly) to the pot. Let it simmer for another moment until the meat is cooked through. The beef will infuse the noodles with its rich flavor.
Step 4
Drain the noodles and meat using a colander, ensuring all excess water is removed. This step is crucial for achieving a well-stirred and flavorful final dish without it becoming watery.
Step 5
Now, let’s move on to stir-frying. Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and green onions and stir-fry until the onions become translucent and fragrant. This will release their natural sweetness.
Step 6
Once the onions and green onions are softened, pour in about 1/2 cup (approx. 100ml) of water. Add the Jjajang powder packet and 1 tsp of soy sauce. Stir well to dissolve the powder and soy sauce, and bring the mixture to a simmer.
Step 7
When the sauce starts to bubble, add the drained noodles and beef to the pan. Stir-fry over high heat for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats the noodles evenly.
Step 8
Finally, add the chopped Korean green chili peppers and stir-fry briefly. This will add a delightful spicy aroma and enhance the overall flavor profile of the Jjajangmyeon. Adjust the amount of chili peppers to your preference.
Step 9
Transfer the perfectly stir-fried Spicy Jjajangmyeon with Beef Brisket to a serving bowl. The savory yet spicy aroma is sure to whet your appetite. Enjoy your delicious meal!
