Super Easy! Perfect for When You Have No Appetite! Clam Jangajji with Rice Water!
Ganggyeong in Chungnam is famous for its fermented seafood! I bought various kinds of jangajji from Ganggyeong, so let’s learn how to enjoy clam jangajji deliciously! This recipe is perfect for those who have lost their appetite or want a quick, flavorful side dish that pairs wonderfully with plain rice.
Main Ingredients
- 4 Cheongyang chili peppers (These will add a fresh, spicy kick)
- 1/2 cup Clam Jangajji (Using good quality clam jangajji will significantly enhance the flavor)
Seasoning
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili powder) (Adjust to control color and spiciness)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (Adds a pungent aroma)
- 0.5 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (Adds a nutty flavor and visual appeal)
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili powder) (Adjust to control color and spiciness)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (Adds a pungent aroma)
- 0.5 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (Adds a nutty flavor and visual appeal)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 4 fresh Cheongyang chili peppers. Wash them thoroughly under running water, then pat them completely dry with paper towels or a clean cloth. This ensures the seasoning will adhere well and blend smoothly without becoming watery.
Step 2
Trim off the stem ends of the chili peppers. Next, slice them diagonally or chop them into bite-sized pieces according to your preference. Slicing them too thickly might prevent the seasoning from penetrating evenly, so aim for a moderate size. If you like it extra spicy, feel free to leave the seeds in!
Step 3
Now it’s time to prepare the star ingredient, the clam jangajji. Carefully place the desired amount into a clean bowl. Remember that clam jangajji is already seasoned, so tasting it beforehand and adjusting the seasoning quantities is crucial.
Step 4
It’s time to make the seasoning mix. To the clam jangajji in the bowl, add 1.5 Tbsp of gochugaru, 0.5 Tbsp of minced garlic, and 0.5 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds for that nutty aroma. This simple combination is enough to elevate the flavor of the clam jangajji! (You can add a tiny bit of sugar or plum extract if you prefer a slightly sweeter taste.)
Step 5
Gently toss the clam jangajji and the seasoning ingredients in the bowl with chopsticks or a spoon. Mix until the seasoning evenly coats the clams. Then, add the prepared sliced Cheongyang chili peppers and toss lightly once more. The delicious clam jangajji salad is almost ready! Be gentle when mixing to avoid mashing the clams.
Step 6
Finally, transfer the appetizing clam jangajji salad to a serving dish. This dish is perfect for spooning over warm rice or enjoying as a delightful accompaniment to a cold beer or makgeolli. Enjoy this incredible rice thief!
