  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Squid (cleaned)
  • 20g Dried Seaweed (rehydrated and drained)
  • 1/4 Red Onion (thinly sliced)

Dressing

  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Fish Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Plum Extract
  • 1 Tbsp Mirin (or Cooking Sake)
  • 1 Tbsp Vinegar
  • A pinch of Sesame Seeds
  • A drizzle of Sesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

If your squid is already cleaned, gently pat its surface dry with paper towels. If the skin is still on, you can carefully scrape it off with the back of a knife or peel it away. This step helps to reduce any fishy odor and ensures a cleaner taste.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the prepared squid into bite-sized pieces. Typically, pieces about 2-3 cm in length are easy to eat in one bite. Separate and slice the squid body and tentacles into similar sizes.

Step 2

Step 3

Blanch the cut squid in boiling water. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough. The squid is ready when it turns opaque and slightly firm, usually after about 1 to 1.5 minutes. Immediately rinse the blanched squid in cold water to stop the cooking and drain it well.

Step 3

Step 4

In a large bowl, combine the drained seaweed, blanched squid, and thinly sliced red onion. Add the soy sauce, fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, mirin, and mix gently with your hands. Ensure all ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing. Toss carefully to prevent the seaweed from clumping.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, drizzle with sesame oil for a nutty aroma and sprinkle with sesame seeds. The richness of the sesame oil and the delightful crunch of the seeds will elevate the overall flavor of the salad.

Step 5

Step 6

Your delicious and refreshing Squid and Seaweed Salad is ready! It’s a fantastic side dish for any meal or a great appetizer. You’ll surely love it!
