Main Ingredients
- Somen noodles, 2 servings
- Canned whelks, 1 can (approx. 200g)
- Cucumber, 1/2
- Onion, 1/4
- Korean chili pepper (Cheongyang pepper), 2
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the secret sauce for this delicious whelk noodle salad! In a bowl, combine 3 Tbsp gochujang, 3 Tbsp sugar, 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp gochugaru, 3 Tbsp vinegar, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, and 3 Tbsp of the liquid from the canned whelks. Mix well until the sugar dissolves. Taste and adjust the sugar or vinegar to your preference.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the vegetables. Wash the cucumber thoroughly and julienne it thinly. Thinly slice the onion as well. Finely mince the Korean chili peppers after removing the seeds. (If you like it spicier, you can leave the seeds in!) Drain the canned whelks and cut them into bite-sized pieces. If they are too large, cut them in half or into quarters. Tip! While you’re preparing the other ingredients, you can boil the somen noodles ahead of time and rinse them under cold water to drain, which will save you time.
Step 3
Place the prepared whelks, julienned cucumber, onion, and minced chili peppers into a large bowl. Pour the delicious sauce you made earlier over the ingredients.
Step 4
Gently toss the ingredients with the sauce using your hands or a spatula until everything is well combined. You can also mix in the somen noodles for an even tastier result. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your wonderful whelk noodle salad, perfect as a bar snack, is ready!
