  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 250g Sundae (Korean blood sausage), recommend using glutinous rice sundae for a chewier texture
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/2 Carrot
  • 1 Green onion (scallion)
  • 15 Perilla leaves
  • 2 Cheongyang peppers (spicy Korean chili peppers)
  • Generous amount of Cabbage
  • 1 Tbsp Perilla seed powder (the secret ingredient for sundae stir-fry!)
  • 1/2 cup Water

Golden Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Corn syrup or Oligodang
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking wine (like Mirin)
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger powder
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Pinch of Black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the vegetables by cutting them into bite-sized pieces. Slice the cabbage, onion, and perilla leaves into thick strips. Cut the carrot, green onion, and Cheongyang peppers diagonally about 0.5cm thick; this shape helps the sauce penetrate well and looks appealing.

Step 1

Step 2

The key ingredient that determines the deep, nutty flavor of this sundae stir-fry is ‘perilla seed powder’. Make sure to add it at the end!

Step 2

Step 3

In a small bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients and mix them thoroughly to create the sauce in advance. This step helps to shorten the cooking time.

Step 3

Step 4

You can choose your preferred type of sundae, but if you enjoy a chewy texture, we recommend using glutinous rice sundae. Cut the sundae into bite-sized pieces.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a large pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the sliced onions first and stir-fry until they become transparent. Frying the onions first brings out their sweetness and enhances the overall flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the onions are transparent, add the cabbage and stir-fry together until it wilts slightly.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, add the carrots, green onions, Cheongyang peppers, and perilla leaves. Stir-fry quickly over high heat. It’s important to maintain the crisp texture of the vegetables.

Step 7

Step 8

When the vegetables are sufficiently stir-fried, pour in the pre-made sauce and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a quick boil, stirring to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 8

Step 9

Once the sauce is bubbling and well combined with the vegetables, add the cut sundae and toss quickly to coat evenly with the sauce. As soon as the sundae is cooked, turn off the heat, and finally, stir in 1 tablespoon of perilla seed powder. Your delicious stir-fried sundae is now complete!
