Main Ingredients

  • Sundae (Korean blood sausage) 2 measuring cups (approx. 300g)
  • Onion 1.5
  • Red chili peppers 2
  • Green chili peppers 2
  • Perilla leaves 7 sheets
  • Minced garlic 1 Tbsp

Spicy and Sweet Sauce

  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 2 Tbsp
  • Doenjang (Korean soybean paste) 1 Tbsp
  • Soy sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame oil 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame seeds 1/2 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s steam the star of today’s dish: sundae. Steaming it for about 15 minutes will ensure it’s cooked through and tender.

Step 1

Step 2

Once steamed, cut the sundae into bite-sized pieces. The casing of the sundae can be a bit tough, so using scissors to cut it will be much cleaner and easier than using a knife. Cut all the sundae into desired pieces, about 2 measuring cups worth.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time to prepare the vegetables. Slice the onion thinly. Cut the red and green chili peppers diagonally. Finely julienne the perilla leaves; this will help them absorb the sauce better and enhance the flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Let’s make the sauce, the key to this delicious sundae stir-fry! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp doenjang, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds. Mix them thoroughly until smooth. Elevate the taste with this golden ratio sauce!

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a frying pan with a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the prepared sundae, sliced onions, red chili peppers, and green chili peppers. Stir-fry over medium heat until the onions become translucent and the vegetables release their aroma.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the ingredients are somewhat stir-fried, add all the prepared sauce and mix well to ensure the sauce coats the sundae and vegetables evenly. Finally, add the julienned perilla leaves and stir-fry just until they wilt slightly. This will give you a delicious sundae stir-fry with a subtle perilla leaf aroma.

Step 6

Step 7

A plate of this sundae stir-fry, infused with the fragrant perilla leaves and a spicy-sweet sauce, will make you feel like all your daily fatigue has melted away. It’s great as a side dish for kids’ meals, and it’s also a perfect accompaniment to a cold beer when you want to relax. Make it for a special occasion or just to add a little enjoyment to your day.
