A Delicious Stir-Fry Using Leftover Boiled Squid: Squid and Pork Belly
Don’t throw away any leftover boiled squid! The next day, you can transform it into a fantastic stir-fry by adding pork belly. The spicy and sweet sauce enhances the chewy texture of the squid and the savory flavor of the pork belly, making it a perfect side dish for rice or a great snack with drinks. Here’s a charming recipe that’s easy to make without special ingredients.
Main Ingredients- 1 Boiled Squid
- 400g Pork Belly
- 0.5 Onion (medium size)
Seasoning- 3 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Plums Syrup (Maesilcheong)
- 3 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Plums Syrup (Maesilcheong)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 1 boiled squid. Rinse the squid clean. (If using fresh squid, lightly boil it in simmering water beforehand.)
Step 2
Thinly slice half of a medium-sized onion. Slicing it thinly will help it absorb the sauce well and improve the texture when stir-fried.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine 3 Tbsp gochujang, 1.5 Tbsp gochugaru, 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp plum syrup. Mix thoroughly with a spoon to create a delicious sauce. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
Step 4
Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add the 400g of pork belly. Cook until it’s golden brown and crispy, allowing the fat to render out.
Step 5
Once the pork belly is nicely browned, do not remove it from the pan. Use scissors or a knife to cut it into bite-sized pieces. This step ensures the sauce coats evenly.
Step 6
Add the prepared boiled squid to the same pan with the cooked pork belly. Stir-fry them together. Since the squid is already cooked, avoid overcooking it.
Step 7
Add the sliced onions to the pan as well. Stir-fry until the onions soften and blend well with the other ingredients.
Step 8
Now, pour all the prepared sauce into the pan. Stir-fry everything over high heat, mixing quickly to coat all ingredients evenly with the sauce. Be careful not to burn it, and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce is well incorporated.
Step 9
Once all ingredients are coated with the sauce and nicely stir-fried, turn off the heat. Drizzle sesame oil around the edges of the pan to add aroma.
Step 10
Finally, generously sprinkle with sesame seeds and mix gently. Your delicious stir-fried squid and pork belly is now complete! The nutty flavor of the sesame seeds adds an extra layer of richness.
Step 11
Transfer the finished stir-fry to a serving dish. Enjoy this hearty meal with a bowl of warm rice!
