  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 3 sheets of square fish cakes (approx. 150-200g)
  • 50g onion (about 1/4 medium onion)
  • 50g carrot (about 1/4 medium carrot)
  • 1/2 stalk of green onion

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose soy sauce or regular soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp red chili flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligodang
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all your ingredients. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4cm). Thinly julienne the onion and carrot. Finely chop the green onion.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, until a nice garlic aroma is released. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 2

Step 3

Add the prepared fish cakes, julienned onion, and julienned carrot to the pan. Increase the heat to medium and stir-fry. Keep stirring to prevent sticking, and once the fish cakes and vegetables start to look glossy, it’s time to add the soy sauce.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose soy sauce (or regular soy sauce) and stir-fry until the soy sauce flavor is well incorporated into the ingredients. As the soy sauce seeps in and a delicious aroma fills the air, proceed to the next seasoning.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 1/2 tablespoon of red chili flakes (gochugaru) and stir-fry quickly. Ensure the chili flakes evenly coat the ingredients for a vibrant red color and a pleasant spicy kick.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, add the chopped green onions and stir-fry for just a short while longer. It’s best to keep the green onions slightly crisp.

Step 6

Step 7

Now it’s time to add the sweetness. Stir in 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of corn syrup (or oligodang). Stir-fry rapidly (‘hwiririric’) to coat everything evenly without burning the ingredients. Ensure the sauce is well combined.

Step 7

Step 8

Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle a generous pinch of toasted sesame seeds. This will add a wonderful nutty fragrance, completing your delicious stir-fried fish cakes. Enjoy with a warm bowl of rice!
