Super Easy Side Dish Recipe: How to Make Stir-Fried Jinmichae with Gochujang!
This recipe introduces an easy and delicious way to make Jinmichae Gochujang Bokkeum, a popular Korean side dish, right in your kitchen. Its perfectly balanced spicy and sweet flavor makes it an excellent accompaniment to rice, and it’s hearty enough to complement a meal, just like well-fermented kimchi. When you’re short on side dishes or simply crave something quick and tasty, stir-fried Jinmichae with Gochujang is an excellent choice. Let’s explore its flavors and nuances in more detail!
Main Ingredients- 185g dried shredded squid (Jinmichae)
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the dried shredded squid (Jinmichae) into bite-sized pieces, about 5-7 cm long, using scissors or a knife. If you don’t have too much, you can place it in a large bowl, or proceed directly to the pan. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of Oligodang over the Jinmichae and gently mix with your hands. This helps the seasoning adhere better and keeps the squid moist.
Step 2
Next, add 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic and 2 tablespoons of Gochujang. Feel free to add a little more Gochujang if you prefer it spicier. (Tip: If you accidentally pour a bit too much Gochujang, don’t worry! It can add a slight variation to the flavor.)
Step 3
For a touch of creaminess and to balance the spice, add 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. Mix everything gently with your hands until the seasoning is evenly distributed over the Jinmichae. Once well combined, heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the seasoned Jinmichae and stir-fry for about 5 minutes, making sure to keep it moving to prevent burning. As it cooks, the Jinmichae will soften and absorb the delicious sauce.
Step 4
Once the Jinmichae is tender and well-cooked, turn off the heat. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough. While the pan is still warm, drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over the mixture to enhance the aroma. The nutty fragrance of sesame oil will elevate the overall flavor of the stir-fry.
Step 5
Finally, generously sprinkle 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds on top. The sesame seeds add a delightful crunch and visual appeal.
Step 6
Transfer the finished Stir-Fried Jinmichae with Gochujang to a serving plate. Garnish with freshly chopped green onions just before serving for a pop of color and fresh taste. This dish is delicious served over warm rice as a rice bowl topping or packed as a convenient lunchbox side.
