Spicy and Sweet Stir-fried Beef with Onions
A Slightly Spicy Stir-fried Beef and Onion Dish
This dish was made as a light side dish for breakfast, as there was a suggestion that protein intake was insufficient. The mild spiciness of the beef and cheongyang peppers, along with the crisp sweetness of the onions, makes it delicious. It’s a perfect balance of flavors that will awaken your appetite and provide essential nutrients.
Main Ingredients- 100g Korean Beef (Sirloin recommended)
- 1 Cheongyang Pepper
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 1 stalk Green Onion (leaf part)
- Approx. 1/2 Onion (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp Teriyaki Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Teriyaki Sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the aromatics. Finely chop the Cheongyang pepper, removing the seeds for a milder heat if desired. Thinly slice the garlic cloves. Having your ingredients prepped makes the cooking process much smoother and more enjoyable.
Step 2
Next, prepare the vegetables. Slice the onion into strips. Cut the green onion leaves into approximately 3cm lengths. For the onions, slicing them a bit thicker than usual will help maintain a pleasant crispness after stir-frying.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the star of our dish: the beef. Using a tender cut like Korean sirloin will yield the best results. Slice the beef into bite-sized strips. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the sliced beef and stir-fry quickly. Cooking at high heat ensures the beef is seared nicely and stays tender and juicy.
Step 4
Once the beef is partially cooked, add 1 tablespoon of teriyaki sauce. Toss in the sliced garlic and chopped Cheongyang pepper. Continue to stir-fry until fragrant and the flavors meld together. Once nicely coated, remove the beef mixture from the pan and set it aside on a plate.
Step 5
In the same pan, add a little more olive oil if needed. Add the chopped green onions and sliced onions. Stir-fry over medium heat until the onions begin to turn translucent and soften slightly. This process will bring out the natural sweetness of the onions.
Step 6
As the onions become translucent, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of teriyaki sauce. Stir well to coat the onions and green onions with the sauce. Cook for just a minute longer, ensuring the onions remain slightly crisp. Avoid overcooking at this stage.
Step 7
Finally, combine the stir-fried beef mixture with the sautéed onions and green onions in a serving dish. Your delicious Spicy and Sweet Stir-fried Beef with Onions is ready! It’s perfect served over hot rice for a hearty meal or enjoyed as a flavorful side dish.
