Spicy and Sweet Steamed Peppers: A Delicious Recipe
A Special Dish When You Have No Side Dishes: Steamed Peppers
When you have a lot of peppers and wonder what to make, I decided to make steamed peppers after a long time! Eating them slightly steamed for a crisp texture is another delicacy~~^^
Ingredients- Peppers (e.g., Korean green peppers or Korean cucumber peppers), 20-30 pcs
- Flour (or tempura flour/pancake mix), a small amount
Seasoning- Soy sauce, 5 Tbsp
- Minced garlic, 2 Tbsp
- Sugar, 0.5 Tbsp
- Sesame seeds (ground or whole), 1 Tbsp
- Sesame oil, 1 Tbsp
- Soy sauce, 5 Tbsp
- Minced garlic, 2 Tbsp
- Sugar, 0.5 Tbsp
- Sesame seeds (ground or whole), 1 Tbsp
- Sesame oil, 1 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the peppers thoroughly under running water and remove the stems. Gently pat them dry with a paper towel or let them air dry.
Step 2
Sprinkle flour evenly over the slightly damp peppers. Gently toss them with your hands so that the flour coats the peppers evenly. (This step helps to mellow the spiciness and adds a softer texture.)
Step 3
Before placing the floured peppers in the steamer, lightly shake off any excess flour by hand. Line your steamer basket with a damp cloth or parchment paper and arrange the peppers in a single layer, without overlapping.
Step 4
Now it’s time to steam the peppers. Cover the steamer and steam for about 5-10 minutes over medium-high heat. If you prefer a crisp texture, steam for around 5 minutes. For a softer, more tender texture, steam for 10 minutes or longer. You can check for doneness by piercing a pepper with a chopstick; it should slide in easily.
Step 5
While the peppers are steaming, prepare the delicious seasoning sauce. In a bowl, combine 5 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp minced garlic, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp sesame seeds, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Stir well until all ingredients are mixed. Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference.
Step 6
Once the peppers are steamed, let them cool slightly so they are easier to handle. Transfer the steamed peppers to a large bowl. Pour the prepared seasoning sauce over the peppers and gently toss to coat evenly, being careful not to break the peppers. Ensure the sauce is well distributed.
Step 7
And there you have it – crisp and delicious steamed peppers! They are wonderful served immediately, or you can chill them in the refrigerator for a refreshing side dish. Enjoy this healthy and flavorful banchan (Korean side dish)!
