Main Ingredients

  • Konjac noodles 200g
  • Solid jjajang paste 20g (1 block)
  • Minced meat (pork or chicken) 60g
  • Cabbage 45g (a handful)
  • Zucchini 50g (approx. 1/4 small)
  • Onion 80g (approx. 1/2 medium)
  • Cooking wine 3 Tbsp (for tenderizing meat and removing odor)
  • Spicy oyster sauce 1 Tbsp (optional, for enhanced umami)
  • Water 250ml (1 cup)
  • Sesame seeds, a pinch (for garnish)
  • Cooking oil, a little

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, marinate the minced meat with 3 tablespoons of cooking wine. Let it sit for about 5 minutes. This crucial step helps to eliminate any gamey odor from the meat, enhancing the overall flavor of your dish!

Step 1

Step 2

It’s important to wash the cabbage thoroughly. Rinse it under running water while adding just a drop of vinegar to the water for a more hygienic clean. This ensures your ingredients are fresh and safe.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, let’s prepare the vegetables for our delicious jjajang! Chop the cabbage, zucchini, and onion into bite-sized pieces, about 0.5cm to 1cm in thickness. Cutting them too large might increase the cooking time.

Step 3

Step 4

Konjac noodles can sometimes have a unique smell. To remove this, place the konjac noodles in a colander and rinse them thoroughly under running water. This step ensures a cleaner taste and a more enjoyable meal.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a frying pan with a little cooking oil. Add the marinated minced meat and the prepared cabbage, zucchini, and onion. Stir-fry them over medium heat until the vegetables become translucent and slightly softened. This process helps to bring out the delicious flavors of the ingredients.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the vegetables are about halfway cooked, pour in 250ml (1 cup) of water and add the solid jjajang paste. Stir gently to dissolve the paste. To make it dissolve faster and smoother, gently rub the paste against the bottom of the hot pan as you stir. For an extra kick of flavor, you can add 1 tablespoon of spicy oyster sauce at this stage!

Step 6

Step 7

When the jjajang sauce starts to simmer, carefully add the prepared konjac noodles. Gently loosen the noodles as you add them to the sauce, ensuring they are well coated.

Step 7

Step 8

Let the konjac noodles simmer in the jjajang sauce for about 1-2 minutes, allowing them to absorb all the delicious flavors. Be careful not to overcook, as konjac noodles can become mushy. Finally, transfer the jjajangmyeon to a serving bowl and sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds for garnish. Enjoy your healthy and delicious Jjajangmyeon!
