Main Ingredients
- 3 sheets of square fish cakes (approx. 200-250g)
- 150g bean sprouts (about 1 handful)
- 1/3 stalk of green onion (approx. 30g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the 3 sheets of square fish cakes into long strips, about 1 cm wide. For an even softer texture and to remove any impurities, you can briefly blanch the fish cakes in hot water before cutting (optional).
Step 2
Rinse the 150g of bean sprouts thoroughly under running water. If the heads or tails are dirty, you can remove them for a cleaner presentation. Drain them and set aside.
Step 3
Let’s make the magic sauce for a delicious stir-fry! In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp Gochugaru, 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce, 1.5 Tbsp Sugar, 2 Tbsp Mirin, 1/2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce, and 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated. You can adjust the amount of sugar to your preference.
Step 4
Now, let’s get stir-frying! Heat a pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Plenty of oil is key to prevent the fish cakes from sticking and ensure they cook beautifully. Add the cut fish cakes and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes, until they release their savory aroma.
Step 5
Once the fish cakes have softened slightly, add the prepared bean sprouts and stir-fry briefly. To maintain their crunchy texture, it’s important not to overcook the bean sprouts; stir-fry for only about 1 minute until they are just slightly wilted.
Step 6
When the bean sprouts are slightly wilted, pour the prepared seasoning sauce evenly over the ingredients in the pan. Ensuring the sauce coats everything well is crucial.
Step 7
Keep the heat at medium and continue stirring to prevent the sauce from burning. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce evenly coats all the ingredients, releasing a delicious aroma.
Step 8
Finally, thinly slice 1/3 stalk of green onion and add it to the pan. Stir-fry for another minute until the green onions are slightly cooked. Their fresh flavor and aroma will elevate the dish further.
Step 9
Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of Toasted Sesame Seeds and 1 Tbsp of Sesame Oil. Give everything a quick toss to combine the fragrant sesame oil and nutty seeds. Your delicious Bean Sprout Fish Cake Stir-Fry is complete! Enjoy it with a bowl of hot rice. 🙂
