Tteokbokki Ingredients
  • 500g Tteokbokki rice cakes (1 pack)
  • 4 sheets of square fish cakes
  • 140g Vienna sausages (1 pack)
  • 1 serving of instant ramen noodles
  • 2 slices of cheese
  • 1.5 onions

Flavor Enhancing Seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 Tbsp Instant curry powder
  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce (Guk-ganjang)
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Natural seasoning powder (optional)
  • 1 liter Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the ingredients for the Tteokbokki. Rinse the rice cakes with water. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces (triangles or squares). Make shallow scores on the Vienna sausages so they look nice as they cook.

Step 2

To maximize the natural sweetness, thinly slice the onions. As they simmer, the onions will release their sweetness into the sauce, creating a richer flavor.

Step 3

In a large pot or pan, combine the prepared Tteokbokki rice cakes, sliced fish cakes, scored Vienna sausages, and sliced onions. Add the Gochujang, instant curry powder, soy sauce, black pepper, and natural seasoning powder. Pour in 1 liter of water. Stir everything gently to ensure the ingredients and seasonings are well combined.

Step 4

Now, bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. You’ll notice the sauce gradually thickening as it cooks, thanks to the curry powder. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and cook until the rice cakes are tender and the sauce has reached your desired consistency.

Step 5

Once the rice cakes are cooked and the sauce has thickened, reduce the heat slightly. Top the Tteokbokki with 2 slices of cheese. The melting cheese will add extra richness and a wonderfully smooth texture.

Step 6

As the cheese begins to melt, add the ramen noodles. For the best texture, cook the ramen noodles separately in boiling water until al dente, then add them to the Tteokbokki. (Alternatively, you can add them directly to the Tteokbokki pot to cook, but be mindful of them becoming too soft.)

Step 7

Finally, place the cooked ramen noodles on top of the Tteokbokki for a complete and delicious meal. This Curry Tteokbokki is ready to be enjoyed! Feel free to add boiled eggs or fried seaweed rolls (gimmari) for an even more satisfying dish.
