Spicy and Refreshing Silkworm Pupae Soup
High-Protein Nutritious Snack: A Deliciously Spicy Silkworm Pupae Soup Recipe
I made a deliciously spicy silkworm pupae soup using canned pupae. With its rich nutrition and invigorating spicy broth, it’s the perfect accompaniment to drinks on a chilly day. Why not try this enticing silkworm pupae soup that’s full of flavor when the weather gets cold? ^^
Ingredients- Canned silkworm pupae 130g (including liquid)
- 1 Korean green chili pepper (Cheongyang chili)
- 20g Green onion
- 40g Onion
- 1/2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper
- 100mL Rice water (water used for rinsing rice)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly wash all the vegetables and prepare them for cooking. Slice the Korean green chili pepper and green onion diagonally. Thinly slice the onion into strips. Mince the garlic. (If using pre-minced garlic, you can use it directly.) The canned silkworm pupae should be prepared with both the pupae and their liquid.
Step 2
Open the can of silkworm pupae and pour both the pupae and their liquid into a pot. Add the 100mL of rice water and bring it to a boil. Let it boil for a moment until it starts to bubble.
Step 3
Once the pupae mixture starts boiling, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and continue to simmer. This will infuse the broth with the pungent flavor and aroma of garlic, enhancing its savory taste.
Step 4
After simmering the garlic for a bit, immediately add 1/2 tablespoon of gochugaru. You can sift it through a sieve or mix it well to prevent clumps. Let it simmer for about 1 minute to allow the spicy flavor and color to fully develop in the broth.
Step 5
Now, add all the prepared vegetables – the sliced onion, green chili pepper, and green onion – to the pot. Cook over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes, allowing the vegetables to soften and meld with the broth. The vegetables will add sweetness and a refreshing taste to the soup as they cook.
Step 6
Once the vegetables are cooked to your liking, turn off the heat. Finally, add black pepper to your desired amount. (I added about two shakes.) The aroma of black pepper will further enrich the flavor of the silkworm pupae soup. Adjust the amount of pepper to your preference.
Step 7
Carefully ladle the piping hot silkworm pupae soup into bowls. You’ll have a delicious, high-protein snack and drink accompaniment, featuring the spicy kick of the Korean green chilies and a refreshing, hearty broth! Enjoy this comforting and invigorating soup on a cold day.
