Base Ingredients- Lee Kum Kee Hot Pot Sauce (Mala Tang specific)
- 500ml Beef Bone Broth
- 500ml Water
- 100g Pork Belly Slices (or your preferred meat)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Lightly oil a large pot and add the pork belly slices. Sauté until golden brown and slightly crispy. Feel free to substitute with other meats like beef or chicken according to your preference, which adds a lovely savory depth.
Step 2
Once the meat is partially cooked, add 1.5 to 2 tablespoons (adjust to taste) of Lee Kum Kee Mala Tang Sauce. Stir-fry the meat and sauce together until the meat is well coated. It’s best to do this over medium heat to prevent the sauce from burning.
Step 3
Chop the Napa cabbage into bite-sized pieces and add it to the pot. Stir-fry briefly until the cabbage just begins to wilt. This adds a fresh, slightly sweet element to the soup.
Step 4
Gently mix the cooked meat and wilted vegetables to ensure the Mala Tang sauce is evenly distributed throughout the pot.
Step 5
Pour in 500ml of beef bone broth and 500ml of water. While you can use only water, the beef bone broth will create a richer, more complex flavor base for your Mala Tang.
Step 6
Bring the soup to a boil. Once boiling, add all your chosen additional ingredients, such as bok choy, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and soaked glass noodles. Soaking the glass noodles beforehand will significantly reduce their cooking time.
Step 7
For an extra kick of heat and flavor, stir in 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of La Jiao Jiang (chili bean paste). This is completely optional, as the Mala Tang sauce is already flavorful on its own.
Step 8
Continue to simmer over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until all ingredients are tender and cooked through. The glass noodles and vegetables should be soft. Taste the broth and adjust seasoning if needed.
Step 9
Your delicious and tingly Mala Tang is ready! Serve immediately in bowls while piping hot and enjoy the authentic flavors.
