  • 1/2 stalk Green Onion
  • 1 Green Chili Pepper (optional, for extra spice)
  • 1 can (200g) Spam or similar canned processed ham

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp Coarse Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes for color and flavor)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic

Cooking Instructions

Begin by peeling and thinly slicing the half onion into strips. Aim for about 0.5cm thickness. This ensures a pleasant texture when stir-fried.

Wash the green onion thoroughly, separating the white and green parts. Chop it into roughly 1cm pieces. The green onion will add a subtle sweetness and aroma to the dish.

Wash the green chili pepper, remove the stem, and finely chop it. If you prefer a spicier kick, you can leave the seeds in.

Open the can of Spam and remove the contents. Using a fork, mash the Spam into bite-sized pieces. Avoid mashing it too finely; some texture will make it more enjoyable.

Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat without any oil. Add the mashed Spam and stir-fry until it turns golden brown and releases its own fat. This step enhances its savory flavor.

Once the Spam has rendered some fat, add the sliced onion, chopped green onion, and coarse gochugaru. Continue to stir-fry over medium-high heat until the onions become translucent and the ingredients are well combined. Be careful not to burn the gochugaru.
