Ingredients

  • Canned Ham (or any other less salty canned ham)
  • 1/4 Carrot
  • 2 strips Pickled Radish (Danmuji)
  • Cooked Rice
  • 1 sheet Seaweed for Kimbap

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the carrot thoroughly and julienne it thinly. Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat and stir-fry the carrot strips. It’s best to cook them until they soften and their natural sweetness emerges.

Step 1

Step 2

Slice the canned ham thinly, about 0.5cm thick. Cut the ham slices into quarters for a nice shape. Pan-fry them without oil until golden brown on both sides. This process enhances the ham’s savory flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare two strips of pickled radish (danmuji). Cutting each strip in half will give you four strips, making them a perfect size for the kimbap.

Step 3

Step 4

Divide one sheet of kimbap seaweed into four equal pieces. This creates small, bite-sized kimbap, ideal for children. If serving to very young children, you can cut each piece in half again for even smaller portions.

Step 4

Step 5

(As this was for a child, I didn’t add any extra seasoning or salt. Surprisingly, the ingredients alone were flavorful enough!) Spread a thin layer of warm cooked rice evenly over each piece of seaweed. Then, arrange the stir-fried carrot strips on top of the rice.

Step 5

Step 6

Place one piece of the pan-fried canned ham and a strip of pickled radish on top of the carrots. Gently press down to help secure the fillings.

Step 6

Step 7

Roll up the seaweed tightly starting from the bottom edge. Since the kimbap pieces are small, they can be eaten as is. However, for easier handling, especially for children, slice them into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm) and arrange them attractively on a plate. These delightful little Spam kimbap rolls are sure to be a hit with kids! ^^
