- Romaine Lettuce 4-5 leaves (or iceberg lettuce)
- Onion 1/2 (thinly sliced)
- Salt 1/2 tsp
- Ground Black Pepper, a pinch
- Fresh Cilantro leaves 10g (optional)
Dressing- Fresh Lemon Juice 2 Tbsp
- Sweet Chili Sauce 5 Tbsp (or 3 Tbsp Tabasco Sauce for more heat)
- Sugar 1 Tbsp (can substitute with 1.5 Tbsp Honey)
- Olive Oil 1 Tbsp
- Fish Sauce (or anchovy sauce/garum) 1 tsp
- Fresh Lemon Juice 2 Tbsp
- Sweet Chili Sauce 5 Tbsp (or 3 Tbsp Tabasco Sauce for more heat)
- Sugar 1 Tbsp (can substitute with 1.5 Tbsp Honey)
- Olive Oil 1 Tbsp
- Fish Sauce (or anchovy sauce/garum) 1 tsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the delicious dressing. In a clean bowl, combine the lemon juice, sweet chili sauce, sugar (or honey), olive oil, and fish sauce. Whisk gently with a whisk or spoon until all ingredients are well combined. This creates a flavorful Southeast Asian-style dressing.
Step 2
To ensure the best flavor for your salad, it’s important to remove the strong pungency of the onion. Slice the onion as thinly as possible. Then, soak the sliced onions in cold water for about 10 minutes to mellow their sharpness. After soaking, drain them thoroughly in a sieve to remove excess water.
Step 3
Now, let’s grill the salmon to perfection. Heat a pan with a little olive oil over medium heat. Place the fresh salmon in the pan. Sprinkle the salmon evenly with salt and ground black pepper. Cover the pan and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the salmon is cooked through but still moist and flaky inside. Achieving a slightly crispy exterior and tender interior is key.
Step 4
Once the salmon is beautifully grilled, it’s best to flake it while it’s still warm for optimal flavor. Let the cooked salmon cool slightly in the pan for a few minutes. Then, gently flake it into bite-sized pieces using forks or your fingers. This makes it easier to eat and allows the dressing to coat the salmon more effectively.
Step 5
It’s time to assemble the salad! Arrange the torn romaine lettuce (or iceberg lettuce) attractively on a serving plate. Scatter the thinly sliced onion over the lettuce. Then, generously place the flaked grilled salmon on top. Finally, drizzle the prepared spicy-sweet Southeast Asian dressing over the salmon and greens. This vibrant salad, bursting with fresh flavors and the tangy dressing, is a delightful dish for any occasion, especially for a healthy meal. If you enjoy a more aromatic touch, garnish with fresh cilantro leaves. This recipe is truly delicious, so give it a try! I’ll be back soon with more tasty recipes!
