Ingredients
  • Yam (Nagaimo) 40g
  • Yogurt 2 cups

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Gently rinse the yam under running water, just enough to remove loose soil. Use a peeler to carefully remove the skin. It is crucial to wear disposable or rubber gloves while peeling to avoid allergic reactions from compounds in the yam skin. This protective measure helps prevent skin irritation.

Step 2

Cut the peeled yam into portions for daily consumption. Pre-cutting makes it easier to prepare your drink later.

Step 3

Place the cut yam pieces in an airtight container or resealable bag. Add enough water to completely submerge the yam, then stir in one tablespoon of vinegar. This mixture helps prevent browning and keeps the yam fresh. Stored this way in the refrigerator, the yam can be kept for about a week.

Step 4

A serving size of 20g of raw yam is considered appropriate for daily intake. Consuming too much raw yam can lead to side effects like diarrhea or stomach discomfort, so it’s best to adhere to the recommended amount. For this recipe, we’ll prepare 40g of yam for two servings. My portion here is approximately 45g.

Add two cups of plain yogurt to the 40g of prepared yam. The yogurt contributes to a smoother texture, balancing the yam’s characteristic sliminess and making the drink more palatable.

Blend the ingredients using a blender or an immersion blender (like a ‘Goblet Blender’) until smooth and well combined.
