Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 medium zucchini (approx. 100g)
  • 10g onion (about 1/8 of a small onion)

Seasoning & Oil
  • 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce (use low-sodium baby soy sauce if available)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp brown rice oil or vegetable oil
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the zucchini thoroughly. Cut it in half lengthwise, then into quarters, and finally slice it into approximately 0.5cm thick half-moons or bite-sized pieces suitable for a baby. Peel the onion and thinly slice it into fine shreds.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of brown rice oil or your preferred vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over low heat. Add the 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it, as burnt garlic can taste bitter.

Step 3

Once the garlic is aromatic, add the prepared zucchini to the pan. Increase the heat to medium and stir-fry for about 2 minutes, until the zucchini begins to look slightly translucent.

Step 4

When the zucchini is partially cooked, add the thinly sliced onion. Continue to stir-fry for another minute until the onion softens and releases its sweetness.

Step 5

To prevent sticking and burning, pour 3 tablespoons of water into the pan, preferably along the sides. This steaming effect will help the zucchini and onion cook through to a tender, moist consistency.

Step 6

Once the vegetables are tender, add 0.5 Tbsp of soy sauce and mix well to combine. Ensure you are using a low-sodium soy sauce suitable for babies and adjust the amount to your baby’s taste.

Step 7

When the zucchini is fully cooked and soft, turn off the heat. Stir in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds. Give it a final gentle toss. Avoid overcooking at this stage, as the zucchini can become mushy. Serve the finished stir-fry in your baby’s bib or toddler bowl.
