Soft Tofu Yeol Ramen: The Perfect Harmony of Softness and Spiciness

A Special Recipe That Tames the Spicy Flavor of Yeol Ramen with Soft Tofu

Introducing the ‘Soft Tofu Yeol Ramen’ recipe, born from a special request from my son. While I don’t often make ramen at home, I occasionally cook it with care when the children make a special request. Try this special ramen dish, which perfectly balances the spicy and savory flavors of Yeol Ramen, enhanced with the addition of soft tofu, making it enjoyable for everyone. The soft tofu gently neutralizes the spiciness, making it suitable even for children who can’t handle too much heat. It’s also delicious with rice mixed in!

Ingredients
  • 1/2 block soft tofu
  • 1 packet Yeol Ramen
  • 1 egg
  • 500ml water (600ml if adding rice)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Small amount of green onion

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare one packet of delicious Yeol Ramen. This is the start of the spiciness.

Step 2

Prepare half a block of soft tofu to add creaminess. The soft texture of the tofu will perfectly balance the spicy flavor of the Yeol Ramen.

Step 3

Place the soft tofu in a container and gently drain some of its moisture. Since it’s very delicate, it’s best to cut it into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm) with a knife while it’s in a sieve. Don’t worry if it breaks apart slightly during cutting.

Step 4

Finely chop the green onions to add a fragrant aroma. This will enhance the overall flavor of the ramen.

Step 5

Pour 500ml of water into a pot and bring it to a boil. (If you plan to add rice, use about 600ml of water). Once the water is boiling, add the Yeol Ramen noodles and the soup base, and let it cook. Adding the soup base first will deepen the broth’s flavor.

Step 6

When the noodles are partially cooked, add the prepared soft tofu and 1 tablespoon of minced garlic. The soft tofu will absorb the spicy broth, adding a smooth richness.

Step 7

When the ramen is almost done, add the chopped green onions and black pepper. Taste the broth and if you find it too bland, season with salt or soy sauce to your preference. We found the seasoning to be just right and didn’t add any. If you prefer your egg cooked with the noodles, add it now and stir. I prefer to add the egg just before turning off the heat, so it’s slightly cooked.

Step 8

And there you have it! Your ‘Soft Tofu Yeol Ramen’ is ready – spicy, savory, and wonderfully soft and moist thanks to the tofu. It looks delicious, doesn’t it?

Step 9

I added the egg at the very end and let it cook slightly. This keeps the yolk from breaking and preserves its creamy texture. Gently break the yolk with chopsticks and mix it into the ramen for an even creamier, less intense flavor as the rich yolk melds with the spicy broth.

Step 10

The charm of this special ramen lies in the fantastic harmony between the spicy Yeol Ramen and the tender soft tofu. The soft tofu absorbs the spiciness and saltiness, making it much milder and smoother. Furthermore, the spicy seasonings absorbed by the tofu allow you to enjoy the delicious spiced tofu itself.

Step 11

Be sure to enjoy the chewy Yeol Ramen noodles together with the soft tofu. They create a fantastic combination that enhances each other’s flavors.

Step 12

The soft tofu, thoroughly infused with the red broth, offers a deep flavor reminiscent of soft tofu stew. You’ll experience a unique taste derived from this special combination with ramen, different from a traditional soft tofu stew.

Step 13

While enjoying the ramen itself is great, don’t miss out on the pleasure of scooping up the soft tofu along with the broth. You might discover an unexpected delight.

Step 14

Although it’s generally advised not to drink ramen broth for health reasons, I felt something was missing if I didn’t mix rice into this delicious Soft Tofu Yeol Ramen broth, so I eventually did. It was definitely not a mistake! It’s incredibly tasty.

Step 15

The combination of moist noodles and rice grains creates a fantastic taste! The spiciness is significantly mellowed, and the rice grains are infused with the broth and the softness of the tofu, resulting in a wonderful harmony. The inherent spiciness of Yeol Ramen is softened by the tofu to a point where even children can enjoy it, making it a perfect dish for the whole family. The soft tofu was truly a stroke of genius! It transforms ramen into a healthy and special meal. You can even add more soft tofu according to your preference for an even more generous portion.
