  • Breadcrumbs (for coating)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s make simple yet delicious Tofu Donkatsu! It’s also a fantastic nutritional snack for kids.

Step 2

First, it’s crucial to thoroughly remove moisture from the tofu. Slice the tofu into bite-sized pieces, wrap them in paper towels, and press firmly to squeeze out as much water as possible. This step ensures the coating adheres well and makes the donkatsu crispier.

Step 3

Slice the tofu into thick pieces, about 1.5 to 2cm thick. For added flavor, you can lightly sprinkle a pinch of salt on the tofu slices. (You can skip this for younger children if preferred.)

Step 4

Now, it’s time to prepare the coating. First, coat the sliced tofu evenly with pancake mix or flour on all sides. Gently press the flour onto the tofu with your hands to help it stick.

Step 5

Next, dip the floured tofu into the beaten egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Make sure the egg covers the entire surface of the tofu.

Step 6

Finally, coat the tofu with breadcrumbs for a crispy texture. Roll the egg-coated tofu in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere evenly and cover all sides. The order is: flour → egg wash → breadcrumbs.

Step 7

For an extra thick and crispy coating, you can dip the breadcrumb-coated tofu back into the egg wash and then coat it in breadcrumbs again. This double coating will result in a richer texture.

Step 8

Your Tofu Donkatsu is now ready to be fried or baked! Isn’t that simple? Frying or baking until golden brown will complete your delicious dish.

Step 9

Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Fry the tofu on both sides until golden brown and cooked through. It’s important to cook it evenly on all sides to ensure it’s heated through. You can also use an air fryer or oven.

Step 10

Arrange the well-cooked Tofu Donkatsu on a plate and serve with your favorite donkatsu sauce or ketchup. Your child will love it! The combination of soft tofu and the crispy coating is truly delightful.
