Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium potato
  • 1/5 cucumber (small)
  • 1 egg yolk

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, boil the egg thoroughly until hard-boiled; this will take at least 10 minutes over medium heat. For the potato, peel it and cut it into small, bite-sized pieces (about 1cm) so it cooks quickly. Place the diced potato in a separate pot, cover with just enough water, and cook over medium heat for over 10 minutes until very tender. It’s important that a chopstick can easily pierce it.

Step 1

Step 2

Peel the cucumber completely to remove any bitterness or tough skin. Then, finely mince it into very small pieces, almost like grains of rice, so it’s easy for the baby to eat. Combine the minced cucumber and the cooked, mashed potato in a bowl.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the potato and cucumber are together, use a fork or a potato masher to mash them smoothly. The key is to mash them very finely until there are almost no lumps, making them easy for your baby to swallow. Be careful to ensure there are no large chunks to prevent choking hazards.

Step 3

Step 4

Take the mashed potato and cucumber mixture and roll it into small, bite-sized balls that your baby can easily hold and eat. Aim for a size that fits comfortably in your baby’s palm, about half the size of their fist. Avoid making them too large, as this can make them difficult to manage.

Step 4

Step 5

Prepare the mashed egg yolk from the hard-boiled egg. Gently roll the shaped potato and cucumber balls in the mashed egg yolk, ensuring they are evenly coated. The egg yolk coating adds extra nutrition and makes these ‘Potato, Cucumber, and Egg Yolk Balls’ visually appealing and delicious. They are perfect as a baby’s first snack or as a fun finger food!
