Main Ingredients

  • 8 Donggeurangttaeng patties
  • 1 small can of Spam
  • 1 block of fish cake
  • 1 pack of imitation crab sticks
  • 3 shiitake mushrooms
  • 3 stalks of green onion or scallions

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Feel free to use any ingredients you have at home! Cut all ingredients to a size that matches the diameter of the Donggeurangttaeng patties. Using block-shaped fish cake works perfectly for size. Slice the green onions or scallions to a similar length.

Step 1

Step 2

The order of ingredients on the skewer is important. Placing vegetables in between other items prevents the dish from being too greasy and adds delicious flavor. Washing and skewering some napa cabbage kimchi is also a tasty option! A recommended order is: Scallion > Spam > Scallion > Fish Cake > Shiitake Mushroom > Imitation Crab Stick > Donggeurangttaeng.

Step 2

Step 3

In a generous bowl, crack 5 eggs and whisk them with 1 tsp of salt. Since we’ll be coating the ingredients with egg wash twice and cooking them twice, prepare enough egg mixture.

Step 3

Step 4

In another bowl, prepare 1/2 cup of pancake mix or all-purpose flour. Coat the skewered ingredients evenly with the flour mixture and gently shake off any excess. If using all-purpose flour, add a pinch of salt for seasoning. I prefer using pancake mix for a crispier texture.

Step 4

Step 5

Coat the floured skewers evenly with the prepared egg wash. Place the egg-coated skewers in a pan and cook over medium-low heat until golden brown on both sides.

Step 5

Step 6

Add 1/4 cup of cooking oil to the pan. Once the skewers are lightly cooked, dip them again in the egg wash and cook once more until golden brown. This double-frying process results in crispier and more flavorful Donggeurangttaeng skewers. If you are only cooking the Donggeurangttaeng once, it’s recommended to microwave frozen Donggeurangttaeng patties to cook them through before skewering and frying.
