Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables that will add flavor to your rice bowl. Finely chop the green onion and mince the onion.
Step 2
Blanch the spam and tofu in boiling water for 1-2 minutes each. This helps remove excess sodium and impurities from the spam, and firms up the tofu slightly, making it easier to cook. Cut both the tofu and spam into bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a moderate amount of cooking oil. Add the chopped green onions and cook slowly to create fragrant green onion oil. Once a gentle aroma of green onion is released, increase the heat to medium.
Step 4
Once the green onion oil is fragrant, add the diced tofu and spam to the pan. Cook them over medium-low heat, flipping occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and slightly crispy. This step enhances both texture and flavor.
Step 5
When the tofu and spam are nicely browned, add all the seasoning ingredients (water, soy sauce, allulose, minced garlic, pepper) and the minced onion. Turn the heat to high and cook, stirring constantly, until the liquid has mostly evaporated and the sauce has thickened, coating the ingredients. It’s crucial to ensure the sauce is well absorbed.
Step 6
Serve hot rice in a bowl. Generously spoon the delicious, saucy spam and tofu mixture over the rice. Garnish with crumbled seaweed and a sprinkle of sesame seeds according to your preference. Your simple yet satisfying Spam and Tofu Rice Bowl is now ready to be enjoyed!
