I’ve made homemade Ganjang Saewoo Jang! Peeling shrimp is surprisingly easy once you learn how, and making the savory soy sauce is a breeze using just one bottle of Gompyo Jo-rim Bok-eum Mat Ganjang. I made it really simply and affordably.

  • Shrimp
  • 2 Cheongyang peppers
  • 1 red chili pepper

Marinade

  • Savory Soy Sauce (Gompyo Jo-rim Bok-eum Mat Ganjang) – 1 bottle (or equivalent amount of soy sauce)

Begin by separating the heads from the shrimp. Then, peel the shells and carefully devein the shrimp by making a shallow cut along the back. Removing the black intestinal tract is crucial for a clean flavor. This preparation step, though it may seem a bit tedious, significantly enhances the final taste of your marinated shrimp.

Arrange the prepared shrimp neatly in an airtight container. Pour the Gompyo Jo-rim Bok-eum Mat Ganjang generously over the shrimp, ensuring they are fully submerged. If you like a bit of spice and color, finely slice the Cheongyang and red chili peppers and add them to the container with the shrimp. This will infuse the marinade with a delightful kick and visual appeal.

Seal the container tightly and refrigerate. Allow the shrimp to marinate for at least 2 to 3 days. During this time, the savory soy sauce will permeate the shrimp, creating a rich and complex flavor.
