Simple Pan-Fried Tofu (Dubu-jeon)
Easy & Delicious Pan-Fried Tofu
Finally, after perfecting all my ‘jeon’ recipes, I’m ready to share them with you! Let’s start with this super simple and incredibly tasty pan-fried tofu. It’s wonderfully soft on the inside with a slightly crispy exterior, making it a perfect side dish or a delightful snack!
Tofu-jeon Ingredients- 1 block firm tofu (approx. 300g)
- Pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare one block of tofu. The key to a great ‘jeon’ is removing excess moisture! Slice the tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 to 2 cm thick. Then, place the slices on a few layers of paper towels and gently press down to absorb as much water as possible. This step ensures your tofu doesn’t break apart easily and becomes wonderfully crispy when fried.
Step 2
Lightly season the surface of the drained tofu with salt. Be careful not to over-salt; just a light sprinkle evenly across each piece is perfect. (Tip: For an extra layer of flavor, consider mixing perilla oil with your cooking oil in a 1:1 ratio. The nutty aroma of perilla oil adds a delicious depth to the tofu.)
Step 3
Heat your pan over medium-low heat and add enough oil to generously coat the bottom. Carefully place the seasoned tofu slices in the hot pan. Fry one side until it turns a beautiful golden brown, then gently flip them over. Cook the other side until equally golden and slightly crisp. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning. Soon, you’ll have perfectly pan-fried tofu – crispy outside, tender inside. Anyone can make this delicious dish!
