Recipe Info

  • Category : Western food
  • Ingredient Category : Flour / Wheat
  • Occasion : Late-night snack
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 10 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • Somyeon noodles for 2 servings (approx. 200g)
  • 3 slices of cheddar cheese
  • A generous amount of well-fermented kimchi (about 1 cup)
  • 400ml milk
  • 1 can of tuna (drained)
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the necessary ingredients. Chop the kimchi into bite-sized pieces (about 1-1.5cm). Drain the tuna thoroughly to remove excess oil.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a deep pan or pot over low heat. Allow it to preheat.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the pan is warm, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds over low heat, being careful not to burn it, just to release its fragrance. When the garlic aroma starts to bloom, move to the next step.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the chopped kimchi to the pan and increase the heat to medium. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the kimchi softens and its tangy flavor intensifies.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the drained tuna and sauté together with the kimchi for another minute. Gently mix to avoid breaking up the tuna too much.

Step 5

Step 6

Add about one ladleful (approximately 5 tablespoons) of kimchi juice to the pan. This juice will add depth and umami to the sauce.

Step 6

Step 7

Pour in the 400ml of milk and add the 3 slices of cheddar cheese. Stir continuously over low heat as it simmers, until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce thickens. Be careful not to let the sauce boil over.

Step 7

Step 8

Meanwhile, boil plenty of water in another pot. Cook the somyeon noodles according to the package instructions, but add an extra 30 seconds to 1 minute for a chewier texture (if you prefer firm noodles). Drain the cooked somyeon and rinse with cold water, then add it to the prepared kimchi cream sauce.

Step 8

Step 9

Toss the noodles gently to coat them thoroughly with the sauce. Let it simmer for another minute, allowing the sauce to fully absorb into the noodles. Your dish is now ready!

Step 9

Step 10

Serve beautifully in a bowl to enjoy your simple yet elegant Kimchi Cream Somyeon! Enjoy your meal. ^^
