How to Make Creamy Risotto with Ham
Quick and easy cream risotto! Perfect for a simple yet satisfying meal.
Ingredients- 2 bowls cooked rice
- 1 can canned ham
- 1 king oyster mushroom
- 1/2 onion
- 1 slice processed cheese
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
Seasoning- 2 cups milk
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 cups milk
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Finely dice the king oyster mushroom, canned ham, and onion. For the mushroom, remove the tough end and chop into 0.5cm pieces. Rinse the ham briefly under running water and dice into 0.5cm cubes, similar in size to the mushroom. Peel and finely dice the half onion.
Step 2
Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Swirl to coat the pan. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent and fragrant.
Step 3
Once the onion is halfway cooked, add the diced ham to the pan and stir-fry. Cook until the ham is lightly browned and starts to release its oils. This helps to meld the flavors. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes.
Step 4
When the onion and ham are well combined, add the diced king oyster mushroom. Sauté for another 1-2 minutes until the mushroom softens and its moisture has evaporated. Stir everything together to ensure even cooking.
Step 5
Add 2 bowls of cooked rice and 2 cups of milk to the pan. Season with a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper. (Adjust salt based on the ham’s saltiness). Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking. Continue stirring gently for about 5-7 minutes, or until the rice absorbs the milk and the mixture thickens to a creamy consistency. The goal is a risotto that coats the back of a spoon.
Step 6
Once the risotto reaches your desired creamy texture, reduce the heat to low. Tear the slice of processed cheese into pieces and add it to the pan. Stir gently until the cheese is completely melted and incorporated into the risotto, creating an even richer, creamier sauce. Serve immediately while hot.
