Main Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 stalk green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 Tbsp jarred jjajang sauce
  • 1.5 bowls cooked rice, warm
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp cooking oil and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Add the finely chopped green onion and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, creating an aromatic green onion oil. Sautéing the green onion will significantly enhance the flavor of your fried rice.

Step 2

Once the green onion is fragrant, crack the 2 eggs into the pan, whisking to remove the chalaza. Quickly scramble the eggs with chopsticks or a spatula. It’s best to push the scrambled eggs to one side of the pan before they are fully cooked.

Step 3

Next to the scrambled eggs on one side of the pan, add 3 Tbsp of the jarred jjajang sauce. If your jjajang sauce is cold from the refrigerator, it’s prone to clumping when added directly to a hot pan. Adding it to the warm pan and gently stirring will help it loosen up smoothly.

Step 4

Add 1.5 bowls of warm cooked rice. First, gently mix the rice and scrambled eggs with a spatula to break up any clumps. This step ensures a smoother texture. Then, season with a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper to taste. Finally, stir-fry everything together, ensuring the jjajang sauce, rice, and eggs are evenly combined.

Step 5

Once all ingredients are well incorporated with the jjajang sauce and fried, turn off the heat. Sprinkle 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds over the top to finish. The nutty aroma of the sesame seeds will add another layer of flavor to your fried rice.
