Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The foundation of a delicious rice bowl is freshly cooked, warm rice! Place the washed rice in your rice cooker and cook a perfect batch.
Step 2
Prepare half an onion by slicing it thinly. Heat a pan over medium heat, add the sliced onions, a pinch of salt, and a dash of pepper. Sauté until softened, then set aside in a separate bowl.
Step 3
Make shallow cuts across both sides of the pork neck slices to help it cook evenly and absorb flavor. Then, cut the pork into bite-sized pieces.
Step 4
Heat a pan and add the sliced pork. Sprinkle generously with pepper. Once the surface of the pork begins to brown, gradually pour in the prepared sauce mixture while tasting and adjusting the seasoning. Since this is a rice bowl, making the sauce slightly saltier will enhance the flavor of the rice.
Step 5
Reduce the heat to low and let the pork simmer gently until it is well-coated with the delicious sauce. This slow simmering process will make the pork tender and infuse it deeply with the sauce’s flavor.
Step 6
Arrange the simmered pork over about half of the warm rice in your serving bowl.
Step 7
Return to the pan used for the pork. Add the reserved sautéed onions and stir-fry them with the remaining sauce. The sweetness of the onions combined with the sauce will create an even richer flavor.
Step 8
Now, place the sweetly stir-fried onions over the other half of the rice. Your visually appealing and flavorful rice bowl is coming together beautifully.
Step 9
The crowning touch for your rice bowl! Gently place the fresh egg yolk in the center, and then sprinkle the finely chopped scallions over the top. Your Buta-don is now complete, looking and tasting superb.
Step 10
And there you have it – a gorgeous ‘Buta-don’! Serve it warm, break the yolk, and mix everything together with the pork and onions. You’ll find yourself finishing this delicious bowl in no time!
