Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by gently rinsing the salmon pieces under cool running water. You can also briefly soak them in a very light saltwater solution for a cleaner taste. Pat the salmon dry thoroughly with paper towels. Ensuring the surface is dry is crucial to prevent oil splattering while cooking and to achieve a nice crisp exterior.
Step 2
Lightly brush both sides of the salmon with olive oil. Olive oil helps prevent sticking and keeps the salmon moist during cooking. As this is for a baby, season with only a tiny pinch of salt and pepper on one side. Excessive seasoning can be too stimulating for a baby’s delicate palate. Let the salmon marinate for about 20 minutes. This allows the subtle flavors to infuse into the fish.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to heat the pan. Place a frying pan over high heat and let it get sufficiently hot. A well-heated pan is key to quickly searing the salmon, locking in its juices for a tender result. You’ll know the pan is ready when you hear a gentle sizzle as you place the salmon in it.
Step 4
Once the pan is hot, carefully place the salmon down. Cook the first side until it’s golden brown and slightly crisp, which usually takes about 2-3 minutes. Gently test if the salmon can be easily lifted without sticking before flipping. Once the bottom is nicely seared, flip the salmon over.
Step 5
Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of your salmon. If you have thicker pieces, after searing both flat sides, you can stand the salmon on its edges to cook the sides as well, ensuring it’s cooked through. Lower the heat to medium when cooking the sides to prevent burning. My salmon pieces were quite thin, so searing the top and bottom was sufficient for them to cook through perfectly. Cook until the salmon is done to your baby’s preference.
