Tofu Steak Ingredients
  • 1 block Tofu (approx. 300g)
  • 1/3 Carrot (approx. 30g)
  • 1/4 Onion (approx. 30g)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 pinch Salt (approx. 1g)
  • 1 pinch Black Pepper (approx. 1g)
  • 5 Tbsp Flour (for pan-frying, approx. 35g)
  • 4 Tbsp Cooking Oil (approx. 40ml)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Thoroughly drain the tofu. You can wrap it in paper towels or place it in a sieve and press it for about 30 minutes to remove as much water as possible. The drier the tofu, the firmer and tastier your tofu steaks will be.

Step 2

Once drained, place the tofu in a bowl and mash it with a fork or your hands. It’s okay if there are a few small lumps, but try to mash it as smoothly as possible. This will help it mix well with other ingredients and create a softer texture.

Step 3

Peel the carrot and mince it very finely. This will add color and a pleasant crunch to your tofu steaks. Avoid chopping it too coarsely, as it might feel out of place in the texture. Finely mincing is key.

Step 4

Peel and finely mince the onion as well. The natural sweetness of the onion will enhance the flavor of the tofu steaks. Just like the carrots, mince them finely.

Step 5

Combine the mashed tofu, minced carrots, and minced onion in a large bowl. Having all the ingredients together in one bowl makes mixing easier.

Step 6

Crack the egg into the bowl with the prepared ingredients. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper. Finally, sprinkle 5 tablespoons of flour evenly over the mixture. Mix everything together with your hands or a spatula until a well-combined batter forms. If the batter is too wet, add a little more flour. If it’s too stiff, add a bit more beaten egg to adjust the consistency.

Step 7

Take spoonfuls of the well-mixed batter and shape them into round, flat patties, like mini steaks. Gently press them down with your hand after shaping to make them easy to pan-fry. You can also make them smaller for children.

Step 8

Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add about 4 tablespoons of cooking oil. Once the pan is preheated, carefully place the shaped tofu patties into the oil. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Flip them occasionally to ensure they cook evenly throughout. You’ll end up with crispy on the outside and tender on the inside tofu steaks!
