Main Ingredients- 2 blocks Silken Tofu (approx. 800g)
- 4 medium Onions
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 10g Bacon (thinly sliced)
Seasoning & Others- 600ml Water (approx. 2.5 cups)
- 5 Tbsp Curry Powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 pinch Black Pepper powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil
- 600ml Water (approx. 2.5 cups)
- 5 Tbsp Curry Powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 pinch Black Pepper powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the bacon into about 1cm thick pieces. For the silken tofu, make a pre-cut in the center of the packaging with a knife. This will make it easier to break apart when cooking.
Step 2
Thinly slice the garlic cloves to enhance the aroma. Peel and thinly slice the onions. Slicing them thinly will help them cook faster and give a softer texture.
Step 3
Heat a pot over medium heat without adding any oil. Add the sliced bacon and cook slowly until it renders its fat and becomes lightly browned. This process develops a rich flavor base.
Step 4
Once the bacon has released a good amount of its savory fat and looks golden, add the sliced onions and garlic. Stir-fry together with the bacon fat for another 2-3 minutes until the onions are softened and fragrant.
Step 5
When the garlic starts to turn golden brown, pour in 600ml of water. Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. This step helps to meld the flavors of the ingredients.
Step 6
Once the water is boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium. Add 5 tablespoons of curry powder, a pinch of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir continuously with a spatula or spoon to dissolve the curry powder completely, ensuring there are no lumps. Let it simmer for about 3-4 minutes to develop the curry flavor.
Step 7
When the curry powder is fully dissolved and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, carefully add the silken tofu. You can use a spoon to gently break apart the tofu blocks as you add them. Stir gently to combine and simmer for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the tofu to heat through.
Step 8
As the tofu and curry mixture starts to bubble gently, turn off the heat. Drizzle in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil for an extra layer of nutty aroma. Serve this delicious curry over a bowl of hot steamed rice. Enjoy!
