  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Vegetables
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Seasoned mix
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium Onion
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1/3 Carrot
  • 3 Fish cakes (imitation crab sticks)
  • 4 Perilla leaves (Korean mint)
  • 1/4 head Cabbage
  • 1 pack Cocktail shrimp with sauce

Zesty Mustard Dressing

  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Prepared mustard (hot mustard)
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 4 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 1/2 Tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2 Tbsp Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

For the shrimp, I used the ‘Cocktail Shrimp with Sauce’ product available at E-Mart. Since this shrimp is already cooked, I simply thawed it at room temperature before use. No extra cooking required, making it super convenient!

Step 1

Step 2

Let’s start by making the ‘Zesty Mustard Dressing’. Combine all the dressing ingredients listed: soy sauce, prepared mustard, sugar, vinegar, sesame oil, and water in a bowl. Whisk them together thoroughly until well combined and smooth. Ensure the mustard is fully dissolved for the best flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, let’s prepare the fresh vegetables. Peel the carrot and slice it thinly into rounds. Then, julienne it into fine strips. Cutting them thinly will enhance the texture.

Step 3

Step 4

Wash the cucumber thoroughly. You can either peel it with a vegetable peeler or slice it thinly. Then, julienne it into fine strips, similar to the carrot. Gently pat dry to remove excess moisture.

Step 4

Step 5

Divide the fish cakes into three equal parts. Then, gently shred them lengthwise with your fingers to create a more natural, delicate texture. The thinner you shred them, the better they’ll absorb the dressing.

Step 5

Step 6

Wash the perilla leaves and pat them dry. Roll them up tightly and then thinly julienne them. The unique aroma of perilla leaves will add another layer of flavor to the salad.

Step 6

Step 7

Peel the onion, cut it in half, and then slice it as thinly as possible. Soak the onion slices in cold water for a few minutes to mellow out their strong flavor. This step ensures a crisp texture while reducing the pungent taste.

Step 7

Step 8

Finely shred the cabbage. (Tip: For added convenience, I used pre-shredded cabbage from a ready-to-use salad mix.)

Step 8

Step 9

Now, let’s assemble the salad beautifully. Take a large, shallow platter and arrange the cocktail shrimp in a circular pattern around the edge. This creates an appealing presentation and makes it easy to serve.

Step 9

Step 10

Pile a generous amount of the shredded cabbage in the center of the platter. This adds volume and forms a beautiful base for the other ingredients.

Step 10

Step 11

Next, artfully arrange the julienned carrot, cucumber, shredded fish cake, and onion slices on top of the cabbage. You can place them in any order you like – feel free to be creative with the colors and placement!

Step 11

Step 12

Finally, gently place the julienned perilla leaves on the very top. Your visually stunning Shrimp Salad is now ready! Drizzle the prepared Zesty Mustard Dressing generously over the salad just before serving. The invigorating kick of the mustard dressing is sure to awaken your appetite and provide a refreshing culinary experience.
