Shrimp and Bok Choy Rice Bowl for Baby
[Baby Food Recipe] Easy and Delicious ‘Shrimp Bok Choy Rice Bowl’ Your Baby Will Love
My baby has been refusing to eat bok choy lately, so I was looking for a new menu idea. I decided to make a rice bowl sauce with shrimp and bok choy, and surprisingly, my baby ate it all up without any fuss! The combination of tender shrimp and crisp bok choy, along with the savory sauce, creates a magical dish that will have your baby finishing their meal in no time. It’s a simple yet nutritious meal perfect for infants.
Main Ingredients- Bok choy: 10g
- Shrimp: 2 pieces (peeled and deveined)
- Minced garlic: 1 tsp
- Green onion: a small amount (white parts preferred)
Sauce Seasoning- Clear broth or water: 100ml
- Slurry (1/2 tsp starch + 1/2 tsp water): 1 Tbsp
- Brown rice oil or baby-safe oil: 1 Tbsp
- Baby soy sauce: 1 tsp
- Sesame oil: a drizzle (for finishing)
- Clear broth or water: 100ml
- Slurry (1/2 tsp starch + 1/2 tsp water): 1 Tbsp
- Brown rice oil or baby-safe oil: 1 Tbsp
- Baby soy sauce: 1 tsp
- Sesame oil: a drizzle (for finishing)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the bok choy thoroughly and chop it into bite-sized pieces (about 1cm) suitable for your baby. Finely mince the green onion, focusing on the white parts for a milder flavor.
Step 2
Peel the shrimp completely and remove the dark vein from the back using a toothpick or skewer. Cut the cleaned shrimp into manageable pieces (1-2cm) for your baby. (Tip: If you have pre-cooked, boiled shrimp at home, simply peel them and use for convenience.)
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add 1 Tbsp of brown rice oil (or baby-safe oil). Add the minced garlic and finely chopped green onion. Sauté them gently, being careful not to burn, until a mild aroma is released. This step is crucial for building flavor.
Step 4
Once the garlic and green onion are fragrant, add the shrimp and stir-fry until they turn opaque and are cooked through. Sautéing the shrimp first helps eliminate any fishy smell and enhances their flavor.
Step 5
When the shrimp are almost cooked, add the chopped bok choy and stir-fry until it’s slightly wilted. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the bok choy mushy.
Step 6
Once the bok choy has slightly softened, pour in 100ml of broth (or water) and bring it to a simmer. Once simmering, add 1 tsp of baby soy sauce to lightly season. (Adjust the amount of soy sauce based on your baby’s age and taste preferences.)
Step 7
In a small bowl, mix 1/2 tsp of starch with 1/2 tsp of water to create a slurry. Gradually add the slurry to the simmering sauce while stirring gently with chopsticks or a spatula. Continue adding the slurry bit by bit until you achieve your desired thickness. (If it becomes too thick, add a little more broth.)
Step 8
Finally, drizzle a little sesame oil for an added nutty aroma that your baby will love. Pour the finished shrimp and bok choy sauce over warm rice to create a delightful meal for your little one!
