Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s make the delicious kimbap filling! In 1.5 cups of warm cooked rice, add 1 Tbsp soy sauce and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Mix well. Finally, add 2-3 pinches of salt for seasoning. This creates the flavorful seasoned rice. Gently mix to avoid clumping the rice.
Step 2
Now, let’s roll the kimbap. Lightly dampen a sheet of rice paper with water until pliable, then lay it flat. Place half a sheet of seaweed (cut lengthwise) on top of the rice paper. Spread about 3 tablespoons of the seasoned rice evenly over the wider side of the seaweed. Fold in the ends of the seaweed sheet slightly, then tightly roll the rice paper and seaweed together. It’s important to hold it firmly to prevent the rice from coming apart.
Step 3
Time to give the kimbap a nutty sesame seed coating! Sprinkle a generous amount of sesame seeds onto a wide plate or tray. Place the rolled kimbap on top and roll it back and forth to coat the entire surface with sesame seeds. Ensure the seeds adhere well to the kimbap.
Step 4
Crispy outside, tender inside! Let’s pan-fry the kimbap. Lightly preheat a frying pan over low heat and add just a small amount of vegetable oil. Place the sesame-seed-coated kimbap in the pan and cook over medium heat. Turn the kimbap occasionally to ensure all sides are golden brown and appetizing. Be careful not to cook over high heat, as the sesame seeds can burn. Cook until the exterior is lightly crispy for a delicious Sesame Seed Kimbap!
Step 5
Enhance the flavor to your liking! For the dipping sauce, mix 3 Tbsp mayonnaise, 1 tsp wasabi, 1 Tbsp honey, and 1/2 Tbsp vinegar until well combined. Dip the finished Sesame Seed Kimbap into this sauce for a delightful combination of nutty, spicy, and sweet flavors. If making for children, you can omit the wasabi.
