  • 7 stalks green onions (about 10-15cm long)
  • 100g chives
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1/2 green chili pepper
  • 1/2 red chili pepper
  • 4 cocktail shrimp
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Batter Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp pancake mix
  • 1 Tbsp tempura flour
  • 1/2 Tbsp potato starch
  • 1/2 Tbsp dried shrimp powder (for umami and flavor)
  • 1/3 Tbsp fish sauce (for savory taste)
  • 4 Tbsp cold water

First, wash and prepare all your ingredients. Thinly slice the onion. Seed the red and green chili peppers and slice them thinly. Cut the chives and green onions into about 3-4cm lengths. For the cocktail shrimp, chop them into 2-3 pieces each for a better texture when eating.

In a bowl, combine the pancake mix, tempura flour, potato starch, and dried shrimp powder. Mix well to create the base of your batter. The dried shrimp powder will add a rich, seafood-like umami flavor.
