Easy Tofu Fry, Pan-Fried Tofu, Crispy Tofu
Elevate your everyday tofu dish! This pan-fried tofu, infused with the nutty aroma of perilla oil, becomes incredibly savory and satisfying. A simple yet delightful recipe that’s sure to become a favorite.
Ingredients- 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil (Korean Sesame Oil)
- 1 block Firm Tofu (approx. 300g)
- Pinch of Black Pepper (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare one block of firm tofu. First, slice it vertically into about 3 equal portions. This helps create manageable pieces that won’t break apart easily during cooking.
Step 2
Next, lay the tofu pieces flat and slice them horizontally into about 4 pieces each, creating bite-sized portions. Aim for a thickness of about 1.5 to 2 cm; too thin and they might crumble.
Step 3
Using paper towels, gently press both sides of the sliced tofu to absorb excess moisture. Removing as much water as possible is key to achieving a crispy exterior and preventing oil splatters.
Step 4
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of perilla oil. Allow the oil to warm up, releasing its wonderful nutty fragrance.
Step 5
Carefully arrange the patted-dry tofu slices in the heated pan, ensuring they are not overcrowded. You can start with slightly higher heat to get a nice sear, then reduce to medium-low for even cooking.
Step 6
Lightly sprinkle black pepper over the tofu slices. This adds a subtle warmth and enhances the tofu’s flavor. Feel free to omit this if you prefer or if serving to those who dislike pepper.
Step 7
Cook the tofu over medium-low heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until each side is golden brown and beautifully crisp. Flip gently to ensure even browning. While coating in egg batter before frying is also delicious, this simple pan-fry method highlights the pure flavor of the tofu and perilla oil.
Step 8
Once perfectly golden and crisp, carefully transfer the pan-fried tofu to a serving plate. Enjoy it while it’s hot and fresh off the pan for the best texture and flavor.
Step 9
For an extra touch, garnish with a sprinkle of dried parsley. This delightful dish is perfect as a side for rice or even as a satisfying snack. Enjoy your incredibly savory and aromatic perilla oil tofu! ♥
