Today, I’ll show you how to make delicious Tofu and Bacon Rolls, a delightful combination of mild tofu and savory bacon. This dish is not only easy to prepare but also packed with flavor and nutrition, making it a perfect side dish for kids or a great appetizer with drinks.

  • 1 block Firm Tofu (approx. 300g)
  • 8 strips Bacon

Prepare one block of firm tofu. First, cut the tofu into 16 equal pieces, about 1.5 cm thick. After cutting, place the tofu pieces on paper towels and gently press to remove as much moisture as possible. This step helps the tofu hold its shape and prevents it from falling apart during cooking.

Next, cut each long strip of bacon in half. This will create pieces perfectly sized to wrap around the tofu. Take a piece of the dried tofu and carefully wrap a piece of bacon around it. The bacon is naturally salty, so there’s no need to season the tofu separately. Wrap it snugly to ensure it stays together.

Now, get a non-stick pan ready. Do not add any oil to the pan, as the bacon will render its own fat. Once the pan is heated over medium-low heat, place the bacon-wrapped tofu pieces onto the pan. Cook slowly, as high heat can burn the bacon before the tofu is cooked through. Adjust the heat to medium-low to ensure even cooking.

Continue to cook the tofu and bacon, turning them occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and slightly crispy. You want the bacon to be nicely rendered and the tofu to have a slightly toasted surface. Ensure all sides of the bacon are evenly browned for the best flavor and texture. This is the base of your Tofu Bacon Rolls.

While the tofu is cooking, let’s prepare a simple chive salad to accompany it. Wash the chives thoroughly and cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 3-4 cm long. In a bowl, combine the cut chives with 1 tablespoon of gochugaru, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce (or your preferred sauce), and a pinch of sesame seeds. Gently toss everything together. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the chives mushy. You’ll have a fresh, slightly spicy, and tangy chive salad.
