Recipe for Deliciously Braised Peanuts, a Staple Side Dish

Main Ingredients- 1kg raw peanuts
Braising Sauce- 1/3 cup soy sauce (approx. 60ml)
- 6 Tbsp corn syrup or rice syrup (approx. 90ml)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (approx. 15ml)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (approx. 15ml)
- 2 Tbsp sesame seeds, toasted (approx. 30ml)
- 1/3 cup soy sauce (approx. 60ml)
- 6 Tbsp corn syrup or rice syrup (approx. 90ml)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (approx. 15ml)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (approx. 15ml)
- 2 Tbsp sesame seeds, toasted (approx. 30ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing 1kg of fresh, raw peanuts. Rinse them thoroughly under running water several times to remove any dirt or debris. Place the rinsed peanuts in a pot, and add enough water to cover them completely. Bring to a boil over high heat and simmer for 10 minutes. This step helps to remove any astringency and tenderize the peanuts.
Step 2
Discard the water used for boiling the peanuts. Add 1 cup of fresh water (approx. 200ml) back into the pot. Now, add all the braising sauce ingredients: 1/3 cup soy sauce, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, and 6 Tbsp corn syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat. Simmer gently, allowing the sauce to coat the peanuts evenly, for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Step 3
When the peanuts are almost done and the sauce has reduced to a glaze, it’s time for the finishing touches. Stir in 1 Tbsp of sugar and 2 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds. Mix well until the sugar dissolves and the sauce becomes glossy. The sesame seeds will add a wonderful nutty aroma. Stir once more to ensure everything is well combined, then turn off the heat. Your delicious braised peanuts are ready to be enjoyed! Serve them with warm rice for a delightful meal. ~♡
