Main Ingredients
  • 300g Salted Sea Mustard Stems (rinse thoroughly under water)
  • 1/2 stalk Green Onion (chopped finely)
  • 1/4 Onion (approx. 200g, thinly sliced)
  • A small amount of Carrot (thinly sliced)
  • 3 Tbsp Water

Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly rinse the salted sea mustard stems under running water multiple times to completely remove any coarse salt that settles at the bottom. It’s crucial to wash them meticulously, as leftover salt can make the dish overly salty when cooked.

Step 2

Place the rinsed sea mustard stems in a bowl and add enough water to cover them completely. Let them soak for about 15 minutes. This step helps to gently reduce the excess saltiness of the stems.

Step 3

Drain the soaked sea mustard stems and rinse them once more under cold water. Squeeze out any excess water firmly. Then, cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 5-7 cm long. Cutting them to a manageable length will make stir-frying easier.

Step 4

Thinly slice the onion. Slice the carrot into thin matchsticks, similar in thickness. Finely chop the green onion. Cutting the vegetables into uniform sizes ensures they cook evenly.

Step 5

Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add a little oil. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Once the garlic aroma rises, add the prepared sea mustard stems and stir-fry. To help the stems cook tenderly, add 3 tablespoons of water and continue to cook.

Step 6

Once the sea mustard stems have slightly softened, add the sliced onion and carrot. Stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent. Then, add 2 tablespoons of perilla oil and stir well to coat everything evenly, enhancing the nutty aroma.

Step 7

Finally, when all ingredients are tender and well-seasoned, sprinkle in the chopped green onion and toasted sesame seeds. Stir-fry briefly one last time to complete this delicious stir-fried sea mustard stems dish! Serve it warm over rice or enjoy as a flavorful side dish.
