Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, I’ll be sharing a recipe for stir-fried fern, a delightful springtime delicacy. This dish is wonderful as a side for your rice and also makes a fantastic ingredient for bibimbap. It’s perfect not just for special occasions but also as a regular side dish for your meals.

Step 1

Step 2

First, it’s crucial to prepare the fern properly. If you’re using dried fern, soak it overnight in water until it becomes tender, then rinse it thoroughly several times. If you’re using fresh fern, as I am today, wash it meticulously to remove any dirt or debris, and then drain it well. After that, cut the fern into bite-sized pieces, about 5-7 cm long. Cutting them to a manageable size will make them easier to stir-fry.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, place the prepared fern in a pan and stir-fry over medium heat for about 3 minutes. This step helps to remove excess moisture and develop the fern’s subtle flavor. Once the fern has slightly wilted, add the chopped green onion and shredded carrot (optional, but it adds a lovely color!) and stir-fry for another minute. Carrots can become mushy if overcooked, so just lightly cook them with the fern. At this point, add the soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and black pepper. Stir well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. Finally, drizzle in the sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious stir-fried fern is ready!

Step 3

Step 4

This carefully prepared stir-fried fern dish is not only an excellent addition to ancestral rite offerings during holidays like Chuseok or Seollal but also a healthy and tasty side dish for your everyday meals. It’s especially delicious when served with warm rice. Enjoy your cooking!
