Savory Spam and Egg Fried Rice
Delicious Fried Rice Made with Spam and Eggs!
Got too much Spam at home? Let’s make a quick and easy fried rice with eggs! This recipe is incredibly simple and perfect for a satisfying meal.
Main Ingredients- Spam (100g), diced into bite-sized cubes
- Onion (1/2 medium), finely chopped
- Korean green chili pepper (1), seeds removed and finely chopped (adjust to spice preference)
- Egg (1)
- Cooked Rice (200g) (warm rice works best)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for your fried rice. Dice the Spam (100g) into small, bite-sized cubes. Finely chop half an onion and one Korean green chili pepper (after removing the seeds). Feel free to adjust the amount of chili pepper based on your spice preference. Having all your ingredients prepped makes cooking much smoother!
Step 2
Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the diced Spam to the pan and stir-fry until it’s golden brown. Spam releases its own fat, so you usually don’t need to add extra oil. Cooking the Spam first allows its savory flavor to develop and gives it a slightly crispy texture.
Step 3
Once the Spam is lightly browned, add the chopped onion and chili pepper to the pan. Stir-fry them with the Spam until the onions become translucent and release their sweet aroma.
Step 4
As the onions start to soften, season the mixture with a pinch of black pepper to enhance the flavor. Then, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of cooking wine (mirin). Stir everything well to ensure the sauce evenly coats the ingredients.
Step 5
Once the ingredients are nicely coated with the sauce, it’s time to add the star of the dish: the rice! Using warm cooked rice will make it easier to stir-fry and absorb the flavors.
Step 6
Add the 200g of cooked rice to the pan. Stir-fry vigorously, breaking up any clumps of rice, ensuring the sauce and ingredients coat every grain. Use your spatula to toss the rice and combine everything thoroughly.
Step 7
Continue to stir-fry until the rice grains are separated and well-coated with the seasoned mixture. Fluffy, non-clumped rice makes for the best fried rice experience.
Step 8
When the rice is well-fried, push it to one side of the pan to create a clear space in the center. Crack the egg directly into this cleared space.
Step 9
Immediately after adding the egg, quickly stir and mix it with the rice. The egg will cook and scramble, enveloping the rice grains in a creamy texture. Stirring quickly is key to distributing the egg evenly throughout the rice.
Step 10
To serve, you can plate the fried rice by placing a bowl upside down on top of it, then carefully inverting the bowl onto a plate. This creates a neat, molded presentation. Enjoy your delicious Spam and Egg Fried Rice!
